At the heart of this project we aim to improve the pedestrian experience of Wilmslow’s town centre, to explore the possibilities of what could be achieved through re-landscaping this key area of Wilmslow.
We aim to significantly improve the pedestrian environment and connectivity, with a particular focus on improving the ease with which pedestrians can cross from one side of Alderley Road to the other. Parking spaces have been matched throughout the proposal but redistributed to create a car free area of public realm between the proposed Pocket Park and The Rex cinema. This will then come to be seen as Wilmslow’s de facto town centre, helping to bring more vibrancy to this area of the town.
Key moves include;
- Creation of a new public space outside the library
- Adoption of Grove Street as a one way road
- Removal of the service road between Costa and The Rex.
- Retain the existing trees on Alderley Road and add to them, creating a generous green avenue which will wrap through these newly created landscaped areas
We believe this represents a great opportunity to enhance the centre of Wilmslow through improving the user experience for pedestrians, adding valuable green space and rethinking the layout of parking to help redefine the town centre.
